This house is well known to every Yaroslavl citizen. It was built by Ivan Nikolaevich Dunaev, merchant of the first guild and hereditary honorary citizen of the city of Yaroslavl, owner of a tobacco factory “Balkan Star“, made a fortune in the production of tobacco. Ossobnyak stands right on the territory of a tobacco factory. There is a version that Ivan Nikolaevich specially built a house here to prove Yaroslavl residents of the safety of their production. Residents of the city complained about the strong smell and harm caused by tobacco dust. Architecto Nikolay Pozdeev in 1886 erects a spectacular, almost metropolitan palace with lush stucco garlands and figures of four Atlanteans, which was a novelty for the provincial town. The original brackets in the form of antique figures amazed the imagination of inexperienced provincials. The house had opulent interiors, a mahogany dining room and a garden with a greenhouse. A huge dome crowned the building, but it has not survived to this day, it was destroyed during the 1918 mutiny. The graceful parapets with flowerpots have also disappeared. But the saddest thing is happening now. For many years this architectural monument cannot wait for a serious restoration.
