The Holidays are here, and we’re not wasting any time! In this guitar lesson, Ayla Tesler-Mabe dives into the Christmas classic “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms. Just like our other “5 Levels” videos, we’ll be making our way through the song at five different difficulties. Beyond the basic chording and strumming techniques you already know, you’ll need to be ready to play a handful of new chord shapes, double-stops, triads, and even some slides.
We’ll kick things off by simply learning the open chords used in this song, which are D major, E minor, and A major. As you progress through the levels, you’ll add a strumming pattern, some chord movements to add colour and highlight the melody, and you’ll even learn the leads, shots, and fills. Once you reach level five, you’ll combine the rhythm and lead guitar parts to play the entire song! It’s a challenge, but if you take it one level at a time, you’ll be playing “Jingle Bell Rock” just like the original recording in no time!
