Anyway, on to THE VIDEO! #MEGADRIVE is a super rad electronic artist I started listening to many years ago (I’ve done one playthrough to a song of his before - “Converter“, from one of his earlier albums). He & I have become friends over the years, & when he was gearing up to release his latest album, ’200XAD’, he reached out to me & asked if I’d like to do a playthrough to one of his new songs! Naturally I was like “KIDDIN ME?! HEK YEAH!“ (Lol). So here’s “ARC ASCENSION“ from his new album. I’ll put a link to the album below, too - check it out if you haven’t! It’s also available for streaming on AppleMusic / Spotify / all platforms! In general, composing drums to electronic music always seems to inspire some cool ideas for me. I also really wanted to challenge myself here - it’d been awhile since I wrote parts that are uncomfortably difficult, & then forced myself to learn them (Lol). I enjoy doing this though, & I think it kinda helps keep me on my toes (so to speak). Writing something I can’t play or have never tried before, & then stubbornly working on it until I can. It can be a lot of work, but it’s also quite satisfying. There’re some tricky fills in here that took me a long while to get tight, & some very odd 5-tuplet fills / sections (particularly during the bridge, but also a bit earlier in the song too). Anyway - I just really dig composing tough-stuff to electronica. Lol.
