J.S. Bach - Prelude from Partita no. 1, BWV 825 feat. Simon Farintosh (8-string)

Here is the first video in a series of collaborations I’ll be making with friends and colleagues. I wonder who will show up ;) Partita no. 1 is actually something guitarists such as Tilman Hoppstock and David Russell are playing on solo guitar, however, I think it also works as a very manageable duet piece which is fun to play! I feel that the low notes on the 8-string really help add weight especially near the end (what my theory teacher used to call “grandfather notes“). With a couple of small adjustments it is easy to play on two six string guitars though. The second guitarist featured here is Simon Farintosh, a DMA student at the University of Toronto. Simon and I had worked together in the past, where I filmed him playing some great Scriabin arrangements (you can check those out on his youtube channel). He has since delved into the world of 8-string, and I felt this would be the perfect opportunity to play some of the arrangements for 8 and 6 string that I haven’t recorded yet. Simon can primarily be heard on Spotify, where he has an album of Aphex Twin arrangements, receiving over 1 million streams! We are currently recording and album of his original compositions. @simonf5436 Both guitars are by Jeff Sigurdson of BC, Canada. They are both double tops, and the 8-string (which I own), features a beautiful set of Brazilian Rosewood that had been in Jeff’s shop for decades.
