4K View of Mars (2024)

NASA’s Perseverance rover, which is searching for traces of past life on the surface of Mars, took the mosaic photo on 21 February 2024, the 1068th Martian day on the red planet, by stitching together 67 images taken using the rover’s MastCam-Z camera, with each image taken from a distance of about 415 meters. The photo shows the location of the Ingenuity helicopter that damaged its blades during landing after its 72nd and final flight on 18 January 2024. The Ingeniuty team named the spot where the final flight was completed “Valinor Hills“, referring to the fictional location in . Tolkien’s fantasy novels, including the “Lord of the Rings“ trilogy.
