Lakota Sioux of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show: Gertrude Kasebier

In the late 1890s Gertrude Käsebier heard about a theatrical performance of cowboys, Indians and other American West characters called Buffalo Bill’s Wild West“. The show was performing in New York and had temporarily set up an “Indian village“ in Brooklyn. Recalling her early days in Colorado, Käsebier went to the show and became enthralled with the faces of the Native Americans.
