Russian Empire, XIX century Donate & Support: An old Russian miners’ folk song that appeared at the end of the XIX century, narrating the tragic death of a horse driver (konogon) — a worker who operated a horse-drawn carriage with waggons in a mine. Horse traction in mining appeared in Russia at the beginning of the XIX century and existed until 1972. Horse drivers were considered the most dashing and reckless miners. The song is performed by Vasilij Jevkhimovich.
