Painting Paul Cezanne’s Still Life with Apples in Oils Step by Step

My Oil Painting Medic blog: Artclass Challenge blog: Cezanne’s apple paintings appear to almost stand out from the canvas for the emphasis he puts on tones and colour shifts within. This oil painting demonstration, Still Life with Apples is not about precision regarding ellipses and perspectives, but pure colour. Hues appear to shimmer, objects almost seem to sit onto of each other without space between. This demonstration required lots of flat colour but also some blending on the apples. Oil colours required are: titanium white, viridian, pthalo blue, cadmium red, cadmium yellow, burnt sienna and burnt umber. A red imprimatura was applied first to inject warmth into the painting. The painting was completed alla prima in about an hour real time. Still Life with Apples (1890-94) by Paul Cezanne In a private collection USA
