During the autumn of 2023, I hiked the Long Trail in Vermont. Heading south from the Canadian border, I reached Massachusetts three weeks later. When I arrived, I didn’t feel as if I was the same person as before.
Highlights include the northern terminus at Journey’s End, Jay Peak, the Lamoille River, a delicious sandwich in Johnson, Mt. Mansfield, Camels Hump, wild and surreal autumn colors, the Breadloaf Wilderness (along with all of the other wilderness areas, but the Breadloaf had a special something that day), Killington Peak, Little Rock Pond, Styles Peak, easily the best breakfast I’ve ever had in downtown Manchester, Stratton Mountain, West Wardsboro, and the southern terminus at the Massachusetts border.
Thanks to Vermont, the GMC, the quiet woods, the raging rivers, and everyone along the way :)
