He wanted Abhay(Srila Prabhupada) to see a sadhu from Mayapur. Naren and some of his friends had already met the sadhu at his nearby ashram on Ultadanga Junction Road, and now they wanted Abhay’s(Srila Prabhupada) opinion. Abhay(Srila Prabhupada) was reluctant to go, but Naren pressed him. Śrīla Prabhupāda: At our first meeting, he ordered me to preach Kṛṣṇa consciousness in the West. I was then twenty-five years old, a married man with two children. I tried my best to carry out his orders and started managing Back to Godhead magazine in 1944 when I was still in household life. Back in 1956, Srila Prabhupada in Delhi had been struggling and homeless. And now, as he considered his last two years of traveling out of Vrndavana, he(Srila Prabhupada) felt that his position hadn’t really improved; perhaps Krsna didn’t want him to succeed in this way. But one positive thing he(Srila Prabhupada) had gained: determination to go to the West and preach. There he would surely meet with success. Then, when I(Srila Prabhupada) wrote the book, Srimad Bhagavatam, First Canto was finished. Then I(Srila Prabhupada) published the second part also. So after publishing three parts of the readings, then automatically, Guru Mahārāja gave me an indication that “Now you can start for America.“ So some way or other, in 1965 I went to America(USA), with great difficulty. I(Srila Prabhupada) took about two hundred sets of books. The customs clearance was done; I(Srila Prabhupada) told them, “Oh, I am taking these books for distribution. Not for sale.“ Anyway, they passed, and with these books I(Srila Prabhupada) reached America. And I was maintaining myself by selling these books for one year. There was no friend, and I(Srila Prabhupada) was living in an apartment with great difficulty. Still, the whole, I mean to say, stock, and my typewriter, my tape recorder—everything was stolen. But my(Srila Prabhupada) Guru Maharaja wanted this. It is not that he is dead and gone. That is not spiritual. But I(Srila Prabhupada) had complete faith that my Guru Maharaja was with me. I(Srila Prabhupada) never lost this faith and that is a fact. I(Srila Prabhupada) never feel that I am alone.
