With one foot in disco and the other in soul/funk, the Crown Heights Affair had a very recognizable sound that effectively combined grit and gloss. The Brooklyn residents could get funky, but it wasn’t the type of hardcore, gutbucket funk that Parliament/Funkadelic, Rick James, the Ohio Players, the Bar-Kays and the Gap Band were known for.
