People are ANGRY about AUTISTIC HEADCANONS

Hi, my name is Foster. I’m an autistic adult and today I wanted to talk about why so many people are upset about autistic people claiming that Wednesday Addams and Eddie Munson from Stranger Things are autistic coded. Some people are mad about autistic headcanons in general, but the hate I’ve seen people get over headcanoning Wednesday as autistic is wild. Some people are even telling neurodivergent people not to turn Wednesday into “another Eddie Munson situation” because they feel like their favorite characters are being stolen when we claim them as autistic headcanons. There is a huge lack of representation when it comes to neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, etc.) Not to mention how that intersects with lack of representation for other groups. When was the last time you saw a Black, autistic woman on TV? Didn’t think so, and the only LGBT person I know of is Nicholas from Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.
