Deep Impact probe hits Tempel 1 comet

July 4, 2005 At about 1:57 a.m. EDT (0557 GMT), flight controllers confirmed that Deep Impact’s Impactor probe slammed into Comet Tempel 1. Its Flyby mothership recorded the event as planned and was not harmed flying through the comet’s coma.
