Medical scandal: women in severe pain with ’Essure’ contraceptive device | 60 Minutes Australia

Over more than two decades, as many as three quarters of a million women around the world – thousands in Australia – were convinced by their doctors to use a contraceptive device called Essure. They were assured the tiny implant was safe, but it wasn’t. To add insult to injury, when large numbers of these women started complaining the contraceptive was damaging their bodies and causing excruciating pain, they were either ignored or told they were imagining it. Now several hundred of the Australian women who’ve been affected are taking legal action against the manufacturer of the device, and to help their campaign they have enlisted the expertise of high-profile consumer advocate Erin Brockovich.
