Stay in touch and subscribe at Short Film 5:00 Director: MALCOLM SUTHERLAND Animation: MALCOLM SUTHERLAND Montreal director/animator Malcolm Sutherland: “The film was originally sparked by the hilarious stories my sister had to tell after attending a ’professional’ wrestling event in a suburban shopping mall in Toronto. In 2010 I was able to see several live wrestling events including ones in Montreal, Mexico City and Japan. Being an outsider to the wrestling world, all of the events seemed heavily ritualized to me. That impression was the basic thread that I followed through to the finished film. “The main creative challenges were allowing myself to be taken where the film was leading me. I really had to step aside and let the film mature, despite what I might have hoped for it originally.
