In the men’s Elite category, Enrique Morcillo, Roberto Bou and Ever Alejandro Gómez went together until the first ascent, where Morcillo was left off the hook and Bou and Gómez tried to take advantage, but Morcillo, without wanting to lose the overall lead, pushed and he has once again set the pace until he escaped on the ascent of La Resentida and was able to proclaim himself champion of the 9th edition of the La Rioja Bike Race presented by Pirelli. “It has been a very hard stage where the mud has made it much harder, with steep climbs that were already complicated. We thought to do the stage in 2 hours and a half and they have gone to almost 3 hours”. “I’m leaving happy and motivated for next weekend, since the Spanish Championship is being held”, commented Morcillo. The podium of the stage and of the general classification was configured with a second position for Roberto Bou and third, for Ever Alejandro Gómez. In the Elite Women’s category, Meritxell Figueras thus revalidates the title already achieved in the last edition. “This 9th edition has been a complete success, we’ve had days of everything, sunny, rainy and cold, but I’ve had a great time, which was also the goal.“ At the Oakley Finisher Stage, Meritxell Figueras and Corina Mesplet went together until the second climb, and from there, where it was technically more complicated, the Catalan managed to escape from Marta Torà and Mesplet, to reach the finish line with 1 minute and a half difference from Torah. “Today I didn’t choose the tires well because they were dry, and the terrain was completely wet. I had covered myself too much and I suffered from the first kilometres. In the end I managed to change my mind to keep the lead and not regret it. At the top it was a very epic situation that I will never forget due to the cold, wind and rain”, declared the champion. The stage and overall podium was made up of Marta Torà in second position and Corina Mesplet in third.
