SV Rum Rations with Chef Michael and The One Pot Meal
In this video, I have invited Chef Michael aboard the sailing vessel Rum Rations and challenged him to make a one pot meal. The one pot meal it’s just that, a meal where all of the components are cooked in a single pot. This is usually done when making an offshore passage for several days. It reduces the complexity of preparing the meal and the cleanup. It is usually, the only organized meal of the day. Meaning, the crew usually fend for themselves for breakfast and lunch. This makes sense when you are making a passage on a sailing vessel and have perhaps a crew of four. In this type of scenario you may have a watch system that requires two hours on and allows for six hours off. You can see how this might make it difficult to have three organized meals per day considering sleep schedules. However the one pot meal or one organized meal allows time for crew members to catch up that might not have seen each other much throughout the day.
