It therefore always looks both ahead and back, imploring the strengthening grace of heaven to be able to cope with the world and Satan at all times. The final chorale, with brass interludes, and above all the opening movement, with three instrumental choruses, lend the cantata a representative festive character. Bach performs the chorale song, unusually long at 14 lines, in a manner that is particularly varied in terms of setting and rhythm. For the two arias, on the other hand, he used three oboes as well as violoncello piccolo to create tonal colors full of character, which give soulful expression to the pastoral “Hallelujah“ and a heartwarming vision of peace.
