Love Suite | Dune: Part Two (Original Soundtrack) by Hans Zimmer

Arguably the most iconic piece of music from this film, Hans Zimmer was tasked to create “the most beautiful love theme ever made“ when creating the love theme for Paul and Chani. While I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s the best love theme in film history, it is still one of the best themes in Zimmer’s catalogue. Interestingly, the first half of the theme isn’t a new theme at all, and is instead a woodwinds arrangement of the beautiful and morose theme of House Atreides. It’s unclear why this theme is reused for the love theme, but I imagine it’s due to the love between Paul and Chani marking the closest he has to a family since the fall of House Atreides. It’s a remarkably soothing intro to the actual motif created for Paul and Chani, a six note motif that shows the yearning, pain, and emotion that drives the tragedy of Paul and Chani’s story. It’s truly one of the most spectacular pieces of music created by Zimmer, and completely elevates what is already an impactful cinematic experience to new heights. Epic, tragic, gorgeous, all words I would use to describe this theme, and even then nothing I say can comprehend just how emotionally harrowing and devastating it is.
