So, even outside of a recording context he is invaluable and irreplaceable. Dawg has an easy-on-the-ears, natural blues voice and his guitar work betrays decades of influences from Johnny Watson to Elvin Bishop. Tasty and tasteful. Sharing the stage as a side man with such artists as Sonny Rhodes, Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne and Harpdog Brown and as an opener for many years for John Mayall, Colin James, Jeff Healey, Powder Blues and so many others has been Poppa Dawg’s classroom and the education has not been lost on him as he presents the blues with a unique, tongue-in-cheek view and a deep and respectful appreciation of the music.
