So a while ago I saw this post on social media that shows dozens of electric cars that where left in a field in France, and the article basically explained that the cars where abandent in the field because of faulty storage cells. In other words the cars where left in the field because the batteries could not hold charge any more and replacing the batteries would be to expensive. Now I read into the specific topic a bit deeper and these posts weren’t factual. The logo on the cars shows that they are from “Autolib”, a fleet of electric cars used in a car-sharing scheme in Paris and the surrounding suburbs that was launched in 2011 and had 150,000 active users who could take out the cars when they needed. But in 2018 the bollore groups contract was ended due to financial constraints, aswell as Persistent issues with cleanliness, problems with parking and booking and then competition from other modes of transport such as Uber. All these factors pushed this service into the red and it inevitably failed. As for the car graveyards, the cars are being sold to normal citizens, and most of the cars have no battery issues. But this got me thinking all batteries degrade overtime. So should you be worried about your battery pack failing if you buy a EV, and how long does a Battery last.
