GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Senators () | Matheson’s Three-Point Night

Former Penguins goaltender and two-time Stanley Cup champion Matt Murray returned with the visiting Ottawa Senators. While Murray wasn’t in the game, he was honored by the fans and waved appreciatively from the media level. Dominik Simon got the Penguins on the board first in only the first 5 minutes of the game with a shot that he tucked nicely under the crossbar. Shortly after Batherson earned Ottawa’s first tally of the contest, Evgeni Malkin put the Penguins back in the lead with a goal in his first game back on home ice since last season. Mike Matheson then added a goal of his own, increasing the Pittsburgh lead with a goal to finish off the 1st period. In the 2nd period, Sidney Crosby found the back of the net on the power play, while Matheson earned his second goal of the game. Per Penguins PR, with an assist on Sidney Crosby’s goal, Kris Letang extended his point streak to nine games - a career-long stretch.
