Knife Making - Japanese Tanto Style unokubi Knife / 包丁作り-たんとうのうのこび包丁
This tanto knife is a slightly modified version of unokubi. The whole build is hand made except drilling the hole. Definitely not nice like what Japanese makes but a little bit similar to that. Japanese blade smiting is definitely one of the difficult tasks I have ever done. You need a lot of patience in your work. The blade material is EN31High carbon content tool Steel. I want to do the Hamon line but get only a small fraction at the bottom and little bit over the fuller area which I really didn’t like. I want that wavy pattern of Hamon but this is my learning journey and very pleased with the outcome. I personally think that I did better than my last wakizashi build, rest I leave up to you because you are the judge. The saya is made with African wenge wood, extremely hard and dense wood and with lack of tools I definitely felt a lot of problems but with the final tight fit, I get that is much satisfying for me.
