1955 HITS ARCHIVE: Unchained Melody - Les Baxter (a #1 record)

Unchained Melody (North-Zaret) by Les Baxter, his Orchestra and Chorus Posting the three very popular 1955 recordings of the ageless ballad “Unchained Melody” (see also Al Hibbler and Roy Hamilton) which made its on-screen debut as a jailhouse performance by actor-singer Todd Duncan in the prison drama “Unchained.” Slightly edging out Hibbler on the pop charts, Baxter’s orchestral-choral arrangement was the top Billboard radio play version (#1) and reached #2 on the best-sellers. “Wake The Town And Tell The People” and the theme from “Medic” are two other Les Baxter winners included in this 1955 collection. THE 1955 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1955 (some were recorded in 1954).
