#18: High Life

This tune by the Dave Weckl Band utilizes influences from American Dance/Disco and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The pattern itself is a modified 12/8 Afro-Cuban pattern. The right hand is playing the standard 12/8 bell pattern on the ride bell while the bass drum and hi-hat play 4 on the floor. This is more common in disco beats. The hi-hat 16ths played with the left hand are classic Weckl embellishments and should be practiced slowly first to make sure they are played before the hi-hat opens with the left foot.
