Charles and Anne Join the Queen on Buckingham Palace Balcony for Coronation 25th Anniversary (1978)

On 2 June 1978, the 25th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh were joined by Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Princess Anne as they greeted huge crowds of well-wishers gathered outside Buckingham Palace. Waving to the thousands who had gathered to mark the occasion, the Queen and her family were treated to an enormous fireworks display. The coronation of King Charles III will take place on 6 May 2023. Having stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace so many times over the decades of his mother’s reign, after the coronation ceremony he will return to Buckingham Palace to greet the jubilant crowds as their newly-crowned King.
