Are Your Motives Pure? Check Your Intentions! Part Two “Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires.“ Romans 6:12 How do you know if your motives are pure? The Bible says in 1 John 3:12, “We should not be like Cain, who acted with malice and killed his brother.“ Cain is a biblical figure known for the first murder. After God rejected Cain’s offering, Cain became angry and killed his brother Abel. When God asked Cain where Abel was, Cain replied, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?“ We can learn from Cain’s story that if our motives are not pure, our actions will reveal our intentions. We will act out of anger and bitterness rather than love and compassion when our goals have not been met. God wants us to have pure motives because He knows that this is the only way we can truly be happy. When we do things for the wrong reasons, we may achieve our goals, but we will never be satisfied.
