Oxford. MV contestants lined up at start. SV start and pan as Chris Brasher jumps into the lead, followed by Roger Bannister. Chataway about to make his way through to third place. SV crowd watching from club house. LV pan, Brasher setting a hot pace followed by Bannister and Chris Chataway. SV pan, same order, when Chataway takes over the lead, Brasher falls behind exhausted, and Chataway and Bannister are on their own. SV crowd. SV Chataway forcing the pace but Bannister puts in his spurt and overtakes and races away on his own. SV excited crowd. MV pan, Bannister racing up last stretch with huge strides, strain evident on his face. Cross line and falls into the arms of duffle coated Franz Stampfl (coach) and team manager George Truelove.
