While this song could be about Applejack missing Winona, it’s mostly about me missing my own dog. Never in my life had I ever grown attached to an animal of any kind, until about 3 years ago. Willow was incredibly sensitive to my emotions, and would keep me company 24/7 when I was sick. She had a sassy attitude if you teased her, and she was highly possessive and protective of those she loved. If the cat even so much as looked at her wrong, it would become an old western showdown. She was always there to calm us when we needed it.
