Earlier this month Rishi Sunak claimed ministers had “cleared” the asylum backlog of 92,000 legacy cases, although opponents have said that was a “barefaced lie”. The UK Statistics Authority said it was looking into the announcement as more than 4,500 “legacy” cases remain outstanding despite ministers despite claiming they had succeeded.
