It appears to feature Carol Channing, reprising her role in “Hello Dolly!“ from the 1964 musical, or someone who looks and sounds a lot like her! Based on its length, the ad was likely not intended for TV, but used to promote the launch of the doll to toy buyers. The Hi Dottie doll owed its creation to the success of Chatty Cathy. “Hi Dottie“ appeared in 1969 with her very own telephone. The doll features both a pull string and a small lever in her back. When the string is pulled and the lever pushed, she waves her arms and turns her head from side to side.
