G7 on Afghanistan: What’s on the Agenda?

The word ahead of the meeting is that the G7 will discuss whether to impose sanctions or officially recognize the Taliban to encourage efforts forming an inclusive government. A decision also has to be made on whether the U.S. will heed appeals from allies to delay the August 31 deadline of a full withdrawal of forces. The Taliban warns of consequences if the U.S. delays complete withdrawal. The Guardian called the G7 meeting a “gathering of the vanquished,“ highlighting the disappointment in the messy drawdown of allied forces.
