Sky glows red as volcano erupts on Galapagos Islands
A volcano on Fernandina Island, the third largest in the Galapagos, began a new eruption with no risk to people, the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador reported on Sunday.
A report from the agency published on the social network X, formerly Twitter, indicated that a “thermal anomaly and a gas emission“ were detected near midnight at the 1,476-meter La Cumbre volcano, which registered eruptive activity in 2018 and 2020.
On Fernandina Island, about 640 square kilometers in area, there are no human settlements, so “there is no risk to people.“
