Old Devil Moon

In honor of the full moon tonight (March 19, 2011) I thought I’d post “Old Devil Moon“ by Burton Lane. It’s such a great song with a wonderful melody and some fairly easy changes to improvise over. I did not have my video camera on when I played this but I did record it to MIDI so I have placed the MIDIKeyz virtual keyboard along with a notation graphic as generated by Band-in-a-Box software. The improvisation relies heavily on continual references to the melody as well as rhythmic statements that mimic the melody. This is played at an easy tempo of 150 BPM which should permit you to pick-up most of my lines for further inspection. As always, thanks for listening and for your continued support.
