The Best Way to Defend Yourself Against an Attacker’s Punch

This is basic self-defense against an attacker punching you, that everyone should know. What’s cool about this technique is that it’s very defensive and practical, yet it has an offensive element to it. Again, our goal is to create enough space that we can get to safety. We also show here what is referred to as a “fence“, which is a de-escalation position, but is also a ready position if we need to act. The most common punch in the street is the “haymaker“ which is a big wide punch to the head. The “Pillar“ defense that Kim demonstrates protects the whole head and is easy to learn. But she also does what we like to do in Kali which is drive forward into the attacker, while defending herself. Once she makes contact, she can then attack the soft tissue targets, in this case, the eardrums, cause enough damage to escape.
