The warning came after rallies outside France’s embassy in Niamey, where demonstrators voiced dissatisfaction with France’s policies and support for the military junta. Thousands of pro-junta protestors gathered in response to Paris halting help over the coup, burning French flags and voicing sympathy for the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary company. Niger has also banned gold and uranium exports to France, heightening tensions between the two countries. ECOWAS has set Niger a one-week deadline to reinstate the expelled president or face taking actions to restore constitutional order.
