LIVE: ’Justice for J6’ rally kicks off in Washington DC, counter-protests expected

Ruptly is live from Washington DC on Saturday, September 18, as demonstrators gather for a ’Justice for J6’ rally in support of protesters jailed for taking part in the Capitol storming on January 6. Counter-protests are expected to take place. Supporters of ex-US President Donald Trump attacked the Capitol in an attempt to stop Congress from confirming Trump’s defeat in the presidential election and officially acknowledging his rival Joe Biden as winner. Over 600 people were charged in relation to events of January 6, which resulted in at least five deaths. A fence has been reinstalled around the Capitol building ahead of the rally, but National Guard has not been called upon to support the police at the event.
