BMW 7-series E65 “the Bangle Butt“ car design review | Niels van Roij Design

#BMW #7series #cardesignreview The fantastic Bangle BMW 7, actually designed by Adrian van Hooydonk, is already 19 years old. Van Hooydonk’s original 1998 sketch for the E65 was much more radical fastback, but ended up considerably toned down and more conventional. One wouldn’t say, by looking at the E65, it is a toned down design proposal: this 7 Series was such an innovative car! I decided it deserved a quick homage doodle. The BMW E65, the fourth generation 7 Series, was introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2001. It replaced the timeless, but conservatively styled, E38 and it was a radical new take on what a top class BMW should be. The E65 was met with sharp criticism for its bold looks. The new iDrive system, which took some getting used to (especially by the older generation of car journalists) did not help either. However, sales started to clime after an initial stagnation and –mainly thanks to China- the E65 7 Series became the best-selling 7 Series.
