A strong earthquake on the west coast of Japan has killed one person. Twelve people suffered minor injuries, the Japanese news agency Kyodo reported on Friday, citing the authorities. Some buildings in the hardest-hit Ishikawa Prefecture have collapsed. There were also traffic disruptions. According to Kyodo, the national meteorological agency provisionally gave the magnitude at 6.5. The quake occurred at a depth of twelve kilometers. A tsunami warning had not been issued. In the city of Suzu, an elderly man fell from a ladder due to the tremors. He was later pronounced dead. The quake coincided with the so-called “Golden Week,“ a series of national holidays in which millions of Japanese usually travel. According to Kyodo, there were longer queues at the station in the prefectural capital Kanazawa due to the interruption of train services and delays.
