ROV Dive S0478 - JaichMaa ’ja’ag vent field Little Sister

Join ROV SuBastian from the RV Falkor for the seventeenth dive of the Interdisciplinary Investigation of the Pescadero Basin expedition. This is the eighth dive of the third leg, primarily focused on the biological component. The JaichMaa ‘ja’ag vent field in the South Pescadero Basin consists of four large and several small hydrothermal edifices. This dive has three primary objectives: (1) land at The Little Sister (Muutp Mpáan), the younger and more active of two adjacent mounds, at the north end of the vent field, to possibly collect rocks and animals, then transit to the Big Sister to the SE, to survey visually any changes from 2018, (2) travel south past the Big Cavern on the eastern side (look for the ctenophore outcrop), and (3) transit south to Red Hill (Weey ’kual), the southernmost mound in this vent field topped with lush colonies of Oasisia tubeworms, to collect animal and rock samples #PescaderoVentDiving2
