What are the chances of Putin having reached out to the U.S. to talk about ending Ukraine war?

우크라이나 전쟁 끝나나 “푸틴, 美에 종전 대화 비공식 타진” After a Russian military jet crashed near the Ukrainian border, both Ukraine and Russia have been accusing each other, offering conflicting versions of their own. The plane reportedly had Ukrainian war prisoners on board, and with many unanswered questions, Moscow has raised questions over future prisoner swaps. Meanwhile, though the Kremlin has denied it, Putin reportedly sent signals to the U.S. about ending the Ukrainian war, while the Biden administration is already reportedly re-calibrating its strategy and has given up on the idea of Ukraine reclaiming its territory. How are diplomatic dynamics around the Ukrainian war developing? For more on this, we invite Professor Min Jeong-hun from the Korea National Diplomatic Academy into the studio. Welcome to the show, Professor Min. We also have Professor Matteo Legrenzi from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Good to see you, Professor Legrenzi. (MIN) Q1. Over the crash of a military transport plane that reportedly was carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war Ukraine and Russia have been trading accusations. How do you see each side’s claims? (LEGRENZI) Q2. The UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting, and though both sides are calling for an investigation, the UN political chief said the organization is not in a position to verify the circumstances around the crash. Is there no chance of an investigation taking place? (MIN) Q3. Some are worried that even the minimal level of humanitarian cooperation that was being maintained might now be suspended. The Kremlin also raised questions saying nobody could say how the plane crash would affect future prisoner swaps. What’s your view on this? (LEGRENZI) Q4. Bloomberg recently reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin reached out to the U.S. about talks to end the war in Ukraine. Though the Kremlin denied it, do you see any possibility of this being true? And if so, what could be Russia’s intentions? (MIN) Q5. According to the Washington Post, the White House is working on a new strategy for the war in Ukraine that does not involve recapturing occupied territories. What is your takeaway from the report? (LEGRENZI) Q6. With the U.S. Presidential election coming later this year, some also point out that Putin would not seriously consider ending the war as Trump could withdraw Washington’s support from Ukraine if elected. How would the White House’s policy change if Trump returns? (MIN) Q7. Meanwhile, a handwritten Korean character was found on a ballistic missile Russia fired into Ukraine. Based on this, what does it say about arms transactions between North Korea and Russia? (LEGRENZI) Q8. The U.S. deputy spokesperson expressed concerns saying that North Korea’s arms support to Russia would prolong the war in Ukraine. How likely is that? (MIN) Q9. Russia’s foreign ministry issued a warning to Seoul, saying that support for Ukraine could in a “reckless manner“ jeopardize the relationship between the two countries. What would be deemed “reckless“, and what is Moscow concerned about? (LEGRENZI) Q10. How should South Korea manage soured ties between Seoul and Moscow? Unfortunately, that’s all the time we have for today’s edition. Thank you Professor Min and Professor Legrenzi for your time and appreciate it. #Russia #Ukraine #Putin #War #Ending #러시아 #우크라이나 #전쟁 #종전 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-01-30, 18:30 (KST)
