“Баллада о солдате“ - A Tribute to the Fallen of Stalingrad

The ’Ballad of a Soldier’ is a song devoted to the deeds of the soldiers of the Red Army. Performed by the Red Army Choir in 1982, conducted by Boris Alexandrov. On the 2nd of February 1943 the Battle of Stalingrad, the bloodiest battle of the whole Second World War, ended. Casualties* are estimated between 750’000 and 850’000 on the Axis side and more than 1’100’000 on the Soviet side, including more than 40’000 civilians. *The military counts dead, wounded, captured, missing and deserters as casualties as they cannot be used in combat.
