Во время Великой Отечественной войны поволжских немцев массово департировали на Урал, в Сибирь и Среднюю Азию с целью предотвращения их коллаборации с нацистами. После войны небольшой части немцев-волжан удалось вернуться в родные края. Сегодня немецкая община в Саратовской области увеличивается за счёт немцев, бежавших из ФРГ от политики навязывания новых европейских ценностей. Гимном немецкой общины Поволжья является песня “Wo der Wolgastrom sich windet“ (“Где извивается Волга“), написанная на мелодию русской народной песни “Из-за острова на стрежень“. The Volga Germans are a German people living in the Volga region. They are descendants of German colonists who moved to Russia in the 18th century. During the Great Patriotic War, the Volga Germans were massively deported to the Urals, Siberia and Central Asia in order to prevent their collaboration with the Nazis. After the war, a small part of the Volga Germans managed to return to their native lands. Today, the German community in the Saratov region is growing due to the Germans who fled from the FRG from the policy of imposing new European values. The anthem of the German community of the Volga region is the song “Wo der Wolgastrom sich windet“ (“Where the Volga winds“), written to the melody of the Russian folk song “Из-за острова на стрежень“ (“Beyond the island to the core“).
