Russia, UK Scramble Jets; “240 Ukraine Troops Killed In Donetsk Fighting“ | Ruble At 17-Month Lowest

Russia said that its air defence forces shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region on Aug. 14. This comes after it said its forces downed a total of five Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region a day earlier. Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said no injuries or damage were reported in the area. Meanwhile, Russia said that its military units have destroyed five Ukrainian boats in the Kherson region over the past day. Ukraine has said several Russian tanks were destroyed and abandoned near the village of Andriivka, in the Donetsk region. Ukraine’s Defence Ministry released a footage of destroying Russian T-90 M tanks and several other combat vehicles. Russia’s Defence Ministry claims its forces have killed 240 Ukrainian soldiers in the past 24 hours in southern Donetsk. Some reports had said that Russian forces withdrew from the settlement on the night of Aug. 13. However, Russian-installed official Vladimir Rogov claimed that Moscow’s troops regained Urozhaine on Aug. 12. The UK said RAF jets intercepted two Russian long-range maritime patrol bombers north of the Shetland Islands. The RAF jets monitored the Russian Tu-142 Bear-F and Tu-142 Bear-J maritime patrol aircraft. Meanwhile, Russia said its MiG-29 fighter jet intercepted a P-8A Poseidon plane of the Norwegian Air Force. A senior Ukrainian intelligence official has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of spying for Russia.
