Split tail shad - EP Style with a split hackle tail - McFly Angler Streamer Fly Tying Tutorial
EP (Enrico Puglisi) style flies are quite popular. They have been staples in many saltwater and warm water fly Fishermans boxes for years. They look so realistic and are very versatile with color choices. However there is one issue Ive found in the past with these flies. They don’t have a ton of tail movement. Also the back ends tend to just taper off, and don’t form any type of tail. I fixed this issue with the addition of some hackle on the back end. And I split this hackle to give it a bit of a “tail“ look. I believe this improves the style greatly and really makes this fly not only look more realistic, but also gives it some better action.
Now, I personally have not seen this done before. I did come up with the idea on my own. This does not mean that it hasn’t been done in the past. With 1000’s if not more tiers out there, im sure someone has thought of this idea and implemented it as good or better than I did. So if you have seen this done before, please tel
