Wheeled Progress (1931)

No title. “A striking contrast from today.“ M/S from high vantage point of London traffic passing the Bank of England. A trolley bus passes the camera - open topped, business men in traditional bowler hats sit on the top floor. Buses, cars and trucks pass the camera. “In those days, too, in Leeds, they ran three kinds of public vehicles simultaneously ... horse-tram, steam-tram, and electric!“ M/S of snow covered square in Leeds with traffic passing camera - this film looks older. Lots of horse drawn vehicles, pedestrians, trams etc. The film has been under-cranked so looks too fast. “What this Newcastle motorist of thirty years ago would think about today’s traffic - is another matter.“ Man drives a brewer’s van with barrels of beer on the back - looks to be a steam driven vehicle. A car follows behind. High angle shot of busy traffic intersection in London - St Martin’s in the Field visible (I think). Lots of buses and trams. Was an item in Pathe Pictorial issue number 681.
