AleXa (알렉사) is a K-pop singer, dancer and songwriter who grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A lifelong dancer – having taken ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, lyrical and tap lessons since she was just 18 months old, AleXa was first drawn to K-pop because of its strong performance identity. After nearly 1 million fan votes determined her the winner of online talent competition Rising Legends, AleXa signed with Korean artist agency ZB Label, and after once again beating out thousands of contestant hopefuls, was one of the 96 chosen to participate in “PRODUCE 48.” In 2019, AleXa made her multilingual K-pop debut with “Bomb,” which hit #7 on Billboard’s “World Digital Song Sales” chart.
In 2023, AleXa achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first K-pop solo female artist to participate in the prestigious iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball tour. This achievement not only highlights her growing influence in the international music scene but also marks a notable moment in K-pop history, demonstrating the genre’s expanding global reach and acceptance. Additionally, AleXa’s talent and appeal were further recognized when she became the winner of the first song contest competition on NBC with her single “Wonderland,” showcasing her exceptional musical abilities on a prominent international platform. “Wonderland” ranked #38 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay Chart, propelling AleXa to the 6th most played Korean artist on U.S. Radio, and the first female Korean act to present at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
Coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Month and written by AleXa, “i’m okay” is a poignant expression of empathy and solidarity with those battling mental health challenges. Drawing from her personal experience with bipolar disorder, AleXa brings authenticity and vulnerability to her music, inviting listeners to break the stigma surrounding mental health and embrace the journey towards elaborates; “This song is a love letter to those struggling with mental health, and it comes from a place of honesty and understanding. I, myself, struggle with bipolar disorder, so I know the ins-and-outs and ups-and-downs of facing your darkest demons. More often than not, when approached with the question, “How are you?,” our default response is, “I’m okay.” I want this song to show that the conversation doesn’t have to stop at “I’m okay,” and that it’s okay to be honest and to seek help when necessary.”
The release of “i’m okay“ comes hot on the heels of AleXa’s groundbreaking performances at iHeart Radio’s Jingle Ball in December, where she made history as the first solo Korean artist to grace the stage.
⇢ Lyrics
Frontal lobotomy, there’s a part of me missing
It started when I found out the voices weren’t my friends
Oh, I got nowhere else to be feel my sanity drifting
It hurts to admit, but when I’m laughing, it’s pretend
I don’t know my mind anymore
I’m okay I’m okay
Tell the doctor, stay away
I don’t wanna find out, don’t wanna calm down
Let me start over
I’m okay I’m okay
Institutions let me be
I don’t’ wanna talk now
I’ll figure this all out
It feels like I’m going down
I don’t mind being out there
In the dark with my friends
Where the fun never ends all alone
And it’s all distorted
Acting like they would know?
They don’t know
I don’t know my mind anymore
I’m okay I’m okay
Tell the doctor, stay away
I don’t wanna find out, don’t wanna calm down
Let me start over
I’m okay I’m okay
Institutions let me be
I don’t’ wanna talk now
I’ll figure this all out
It feels like I’m going down
Ooh~~~
If I do it to myself?
Is it gonna hurt like hell?
I’m Okay, I’m Okay
Ooh~~~
If I do it to myself?
Is it gonna hurt like hell?
I’m Okay, I’m Okay
Frontal lobotomy, there’s a part of me missing
It hurts to admit, but when I’m laughing it’s pretend
I’m okay I’m okay
Tell the doctor, stay away
I don’t wanna find out, don’t wanna calm down
Let me start over
I’m okay I’m okay
Institutions let me be
I don’t’ wanna talk now
I’ll figure this all out
It feels like I’m going down
Don’t look back when you’re leaving
If I do it to myself?
Is it gonna hurt like hell?
I’m okay I’m okay
Don’t look back when you’re leaving
If I do it to myself?
Is it gonna hurt like hell?
I’m okay I’m okay
