In my view, Jacques Tati’s “Mon Oncle“ is where Tati realizes his observational power and unique cinematic brilliance as a director and actor, finding a place for Monseiur Hulot in the ultra-modern world of 1950s France. This video discusses and analyzes Mon Oncle as a playful attack on modernism, on gadgets that aren’t made for humans, noises and fashion that are annoying, and yet Tati finds joy in life even in ugly or annoying places.
