📃 Оригинальное описание:
I just wanted to talk a bit about isometrics and the isometric device (Isomax) you see me use a lot!
Here’s the link if you want to support my friend’s fitness startup making the new version of that device:
I’m not paid to advertise their link. They did offer but I said I’d rather do it unsponsored. You can ask them. However, I’m going to pre-order one for myself and just wanted to share, since some of you have shown interest. I just like the device and want to help the company produce their next generation.
While I really enjoy both isometric training and the device, it’s been difficult for me to share them the same way I like to share calisthenics. While isometrics are a very accessible form of exercise (you can do them almost anywhere), MEASURABLE isometrics are a bit of a hassle. Measurability can be pretty important for progress. You have to load up heavy weights just to hold them for a few moments. At that point, a lot of people would think “well I’ll just do regular lifting“ - which is totally valid.
So while I enjoy isometrics through essentially using a scale bar strap, it’s not as equally accessible to everyone else. And I don’t want people to think isometrics is tied to any single product - it’s just how I train with it. The product itself was (in my opinion) on the pricier side and this was a cost barrier for many people.
I think this is unfortunate because there are many reasons people can enjoy isometric training beyond what they currently do. Not only are they a great way to enhance strength training, but they can also help people train around certain injuries (lack of movement sometimes means reduced pain) and build strength applicable to daily tasks (we get better at what we train, and we often are HOLDING things in life rather than just moving them through a full range of motion - think of your arms while moving a couch).
I discuss some solutions in this video, including bodyweight isometrics, using dynamic movements to measure progress, and DIY setups.
Of course, isometrics can’t replace movement and I don’t think they should. You should train with movement AND isometrics if possible. I feel like I say this a lot, but every video has someone watching for the first time, so that’s why I repeat myself on this.
I may start making a series of long-form videos similar to this one for those that may be interested in isometrics. I’ve already done so on Shorts, so I may try it on this.
