Air Combat in The Hundred Hour War, Part 1 (. The Soccer War) - El Salvador vs Honduras 1969
In July 1969, a short war broke out between two Central American nations, El Salvador and Honduras. It is often known as ’The Soccer War’ or ’The Football War’, suggesting that matches played between those countries were the main cause of the conflict. This is quite inaccurate and superficial and this video will explain why.
For aviation enthusiasts, the most interesting fact about the war is that this was the last time that piston-engine fighters fought each other and shot each other down.
In part one, you will hear about the roots of the war, learn about equipment that both sides had and see how aircraft were employed right to the first air victory.
